Risk Disclosure

Last updated: August 2026
⚠️ Important Warning: Trading financial instruments including gold (XAUUSD) and contracts for difference (CFDs) involves a significant risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. You may lose some or all of your invested capital. Do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose. Read this disclosure in full before using the GAT Expert Advisor or any related service.

Overview

This Risk Disclosure document is provided by GAT Markets to ensure that users of the GAT Expert Advisor (EA) and associated services understand the material risks involved. This document should be read together with our Terms of Use and Methodology page.

By using the GAT Expert Advisor, you confirm that you have read and understood the risks described in this document and that you accept full responsibility for your own trading decisions, account management, and any resulting financial losses.

General Market Risk

All financial market trading involves the risk of loss. Markets are unpredictable and can move in ways that are inconsistent with historical patterns, analysis, or strategy rules. Even setups that have historically performed well can and will result in losses.

  • Markets can move rapidly and without warning — particularly during economic announcements, geopolitical events, or major news releases
  • No trading system can predict future market movements with certainty
  • A sequence of consecutive losing trades is a normal and expected feature of any trading strategy — it does not indicate a system failure
  • Trading losses can exceed your initial deposit if leverage is used

Gold (XAUUSD) Specific Risks

GAT focuses on XAUUSD (gold priced in US Dollars). Gold has specific characteristics that create additional risk beyond standard forex pairs:

  • High intraday volatility: XAUUSD can move hundreds of points within hours in response to macroeconomic data (e.g. US CPI, NFP, Federal Reserve decisions), geopolitical shocks, or sudden USD movements
  • Gap risk: Gold prices can gap sharply at market open (Sunday 23:00 UTC) or after major weekend events. Stop-losses do not guarantee execution at the stated price — they become market orders when triggered and may fill at a worse price
  • Liquidity: During thin liquidity periods (Asian session), spreads can widen significantly. Spread widening affects both position entry costs and stop-loss execution quality
  • Correlation to macro events: Gold is heavily influenced by real interest rates, central bank policy, and USD strength. Sudden macro regime changes can cause gold to trend sharply in a direction inconsistent with technical analysis

Leverage and Margin Risk

CFD trading on XAUUSD typically involves leverage. Leverage amplifies both gains and losses relative to the capital deposited. At typical leverage ratios (e.g. 1:100 or 1:500), a 1% adverse move in price can result in a 100% or 500% loss relative to the margin used to open the position.

  • The GAT EA applies position sizing based on your configured risk percentage — this limits the notional loss per trade, but does not eliminate leverage risk
  • If multiple baskets are open simultaneously and market conditions move against all of them at once, total floating losses can significantly exceed the per-trade risk percentage
  • In extreme conditions, broker margin calls can result in forced position closure at prices worse than your intended stop-loss
  • You are responsible for maintaining sufficient free margin in your account. If free margin falls below your broker's minimum requirement, positions may be automatically closed by the broker

Automated Trading System Risk

Using an automated Expert Advisor introduces risks that are specific to system-driven trading:

  • Configuration risk: Incorrect risk settings (e.g. excessively high risk percentage, no daily loss limit) can result in larger losses than intended. You are responsible for reviewing and confirming your EA configuration before it runs on a live account
  • Strategy risk: The strategies driving GAT's trade instructions have defined parameters but no guarantee of profitability in any future market environment. Strategy performance in one market regime does not predict performance in a different regime
  • Execution risk: The EA executes market and pending orders through MetaTrader 5. Slippage — the difference between the intended order price and the actual fill price — can affect outcomes, particularly during high-volatility events
  • Over-automation: Running the EA without periodic review of your account means you may not notice large drawdowns until significant losses have already occurred. We strongly recommend checking your account at least weekly
  • No override capability in emergency: If you cannot access your MT5 account during an adverse market event, you cannot intervene. This risk is partly mitigated by the EA's built-in equity protection, but cannot be fully eliminated

Technology and Connectivity Risk

The GAT system relies on multiple technology layers, each of which can fail independently:

  • VPS failure: If your Windows VPS becomes unavailable, the EA stops running. Open positions remain open at your broker but will not be managed by the EA until the VPS reconnects
  • Server downtime: If the GAT instruction server is temporarily unavailable, the EA will not receive new trade instructions during that period. Existing open baskets will continue to be managed locally by the EA using its last-known configuration
  • MT5 connectivity: Loss of internet connection between the VPS and your broker's MT5 server will prevent order execution. Pending orders may not fire and stop-losses may not execute at the intended price
  • Software bugs: Despite extensive testing, the EA is software and may contain bugs that cause unintended behaviour. This risk cannot be fully eliminated
  • Broker-side issues: Your broker may experience outages, execution delays, or policy changes that affect order execution independently of the GAT system

Past Performance Disclaimer

Past performance is not indicative of future results. This is not a formality — it reflects a genuine and important limitation of all trading systems.

Any historical results that may be published on this website reflect performance during a specific period, under specific market conditions, at specific risk settings, and on specific broker infrastructure. Future market conditions will differ. A strategy that produced profitable results in one period may produce losing results in another period of equal or longer duration.

Backtested results are not live results. If any backtested data is published, it should be treated with particular scepticism — backtests are constructed using historical data that was not available in real time to the strategy at the time those prices occurred, and may overfit to historical patterns that do not persist.
